LGU-Dapitan pertners with JRMSU in hosting symposium on KH Wionzek’s “Magellan’s Circumnavigation of the World”

The City of Dapitan headed by Mayor Seth Frederick ‘Bullet’ Jalosjos, in partnership with Jose Rizal Memorial State University through the University International Affairs Unit, hosted on June 30, 2023 the Symposium on Karl-Heinz Wionzek’s report on “Magellan’s Circumnavigation of the World”, published by the NHCP.

The symposium highlighted discussion on the possible stopover in Dapitan of carrack Victoria then captained by modesto maestre Juan Sebastian Elcano after Ferdinand Magellan died in Mactan in 1521.

George Aseniero, grandson of one of Rizal’s former student Jose Aseniero, also graced the event, and accentuated the role of Dapitan and the Dapitanons in the historic first circumnavigation of the Earth.
