ONE WITH THE OCEAN
JRMSU one in honoring the World Fisheries Day
In recognition to the commitment towards ocean stewardship and the conservation of our marine ecosystems, Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) is united in celebrating the World Fisheries Day to highlight the critical importance of sustainable fisheries and the proper utilization of aquatic resources while ensuring food security and livelihood for millions of people worldwide.
JRMSU demonstrated its commitment to the vital role of fisheries by navigating solutions in its recent DOST-PCAARRD project “Spatial Patterns in the Fisheries for Sardines, their Fry, and Associated Small Pelagic Fish off the Zamboanga Peninsula,” displaying the dedication of Dr. Maria Rio Abdon Naguit, University President and Marine Biologist, in promoting sustainable practices aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) leading to the “Bagong Pilipinas” vision of economic growth and environmental protection.
It is indeed a global challenge that requires our collective efforts to preserve a balanced ocean ecosystem and ensure sustainable fisheries for future generations. We must wholeheartedly commit to conserve our fisheries and aquatic resources, thereby ensuring global food security, enhancing livelihoods, and fostering the richness of aquatic biodiversity. Promoting responsible fisheries management is essential to maintaining the health of our oceans and rivers for generations to come.
