JRMSUAN AT CANNES
World-Class Performance by a CAS Alumna

Meticulously handpicked as the main lead of the Cannes Director’s Factory PH film ‘Cold Cut’, Ms. Chevy Claire R. Guantero, an AB Political Science Alumna, played the role of Joy– a 19-year-old student who is all set to compete in a local talent show but is yet to encounter unknown horizons with a mysterious butcher while she is intending to step into the auditions.

The film ‘Cold Cut’ is one of the four films of the Director’s Factory PH which were originally screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival in France last May 2024. It is a collaborative project of Filipino Director Don Eblahan (27) and Singaporean Filmmaker Siyou Tan (35).

In an interview by Film Fest Report, a European-based media organization, Don expressed his admiration for the remarkable artistry and significant contribution of Ms. Guantero to the film stating that, “Incidentally, she also guided us in making the film with her dance style [..] We have written a more chronological film, but during post production, we experimented by following her emotions rather than a sequence of events. The young director added, “We were really open to what they (actors) would bring to the table.”

Beside this overwhelming appraisal, the Film Fest Report indiscreetly pointed out the unique delivery of Ms. Guantero, “The main lead is not a professional actor or dancer, and her unique and unorthodox way of dancing stood out.”

Not too much surprise, this artistic and evocative theatrical flair of Ms. Guantero was delicately nurtured and was rigorously refined under the mentorship of Prof. Jann Dainver Maravilla, the founding Artistic Director of Teyatro Dasuliman (the official and resident theatre company of JRMSU Main Campus). Her cultural performances with Teyatro Dasuliman molded an exquisite brand of classical yet avant-garde finesse completing her contemporary performance.

As a JRMSUan, Ms. Guantero has displayed exceptional feats, excelling both in the academe and in the extracurriculars, being a Teyatro Dasuliman President (A.Y. 2022- 2023) and a former College of Arts and Sciences Governor, earning her the Rizal Leadership Exemplar Silver Award on top of her latin recognition as a Cum Laude.

The JRMSU community, headed by the University President, Dr. Maria Rio Abdon Naguit, extends its heartfelt felicitations and congratulations to the exceptional artistry and outstanding performance of Ms. Chevy Claire R. Guantero in the international film ‘Cold Cut’. Truly a remarkable Global JRMSUan!
