Bohol, Philippines – The Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) has once again solidified its reputation as a leader in disaster resilience and environmental advocacy by securing recognition at the 14th National Convention of Environment, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk of the SAVE ME Movement Inc. This prestigious event, held in collaboration with Bohol Island State University (BISU), revolved around the theme, “Resilience and Responsibility: Strengthening a United Front for a Sustainable Future Against Climate Risks and Environmental Challenges.”
A key highlight of the convention was the third plenary session, “Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness: Key Challenges and Innovative Solutions,” delivered by Dr. Victor B. Bernido, UDRRMS Director of JRMSU. His insightful presentation shed light on the critical challenges and emerging opportunities in disaster mitigation and preparedness. Dr. Bernido underscored the significance of adopting a dynamic and proactive approach, which includes community awareness, resource adequacy, strategic planning, technological integration, and effective communication in fostering resilience. His thought-provoking discussion left a lasting impact, inspiring participants to explore innovative solutions in safeguarding communities against disasters.
JRMSU’s exemplary commitment to disaster risk reduction and management was further highlighted through the recognition of two outstanding volunteers. Mr. James C. Bahian, President of the JRMSU Supreme Student Council of Dapitan Campus, and Dr. Leonel L. Hidalgo, Campus Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service Unit (CDRRMSU) Head of Katipunan Campus, were honored as this year’s Outstanding Volunteer Awardees.
