In support of the Philippine Commission on Womenโs (PCW) national directive, the Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU), through its Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, formally launched the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls during the November 24, 2025 Flag Raising Ceremony at the Dapitan Campus Covered Court.
Anchored on the nationwide theme โUNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines,โ the annual 18-Day Campaignโobserved from November 25 to December 12 pursuant to Proclamation No. 1172 (2006) and RA 10398โserves as a key platform for raising awareness, strengthening institutional action, and mobilizing communities against VAWG.
Campus Director Dr. Patrick G. Galleto opened the program by underscoring the campaignโs urgency:
โViolence Against Women is a violation of human rights and a barrier to progress. This initiative reaffirms our commitment to building a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for every member of the JRMSU family.โ
GAD Unit Head Prof. Roquee Hospicio Paragoso highlighted the impact of coordinated, community-wide efforts in dismantling systemic inequality:
โThis is our declaration that violence has no place in JRMSU. Our collective visibility transforms our campus from a passive educational space into an active zone of accountability.โ
Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Marissa M. Recapente concluded the program with a call for shared responsibility:
โWe are called to embody integrity, compassion, and moral courage. Let us foster a culture where women feel safe to speak, grow, and dreamโfree from violence and discrimination. May we carry forward the spirit of this campaign with renewed purpose and unwavering hope, working toward a society where every woman can live with freedom, dignity, and peace.โ
As JRMSU sets this campaign into motion, the community moves forward with renewed commitmentโuniting voices, strengthening advocacy, and taking concrete action to end violence in all its forms. Together, the university stands informed, empowered, and determined to build a future where every woman lives free from fear, harm, and discrimination.
