Main Campus dominates Taekwondo, grabs championship
Main Campus’ athletes dominated the taekwondo event of the 5th Foundation Week Sports Competition after they grabbed eight gold medals, five silvers and two bronzes in both men and women’s event held at JRMSU Main Campus, Dapitan City on December 16, 2014.
Despite having other competing campuses, Dapitan’s Main Campus and Dipolog Campus closely contended for the championship. Dipolog claimed victory over the women’s category after winning five gold medals and one silver. Main followed with three golds, three silvers and two bronzes. Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Main Campus astoundingly dictated the pace of their matches and seized victory after managing to reach finals in all categories and claimed five gold and three silver medals, while Dipolog trailed with two gold medals and four silvers.
Cadorna, Baes, Barbosa, Santiala, Calasang, Acojedo, Elim and Eguia’s gold medals as well as dela Torre, Parami, Boligao, Galleposo and Sumaoy’s silver medals and Borbon and Engcol’s bronzes were the keys for the Main Campus’ triumph.
Dipolog Campus placed second with seven golds and five silvers; Katipunan Campus in third with two silver medals and five bronzes.
Prof. Joepeter Villaruz, Main Campus’ coach, applauded the efforts of his players.
The said sport was competed by 15 athletes from the Main Campus, 12 from Dipolog and 7 from from Katipunan; a total of 34 participants. TSC
