‘The Equalizer’, scribes amass awards in DSPC’ 16, secure RSPC spots
DAPITAN CITY – Scribes of ‘The Equalizer’ and ‘Ang Bagong Pananaw’, official school publication in English and in Filipino of this University harvested 10 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronze medals during the 2016 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC ‘16) held Wednesday, September 21, at the Dapitan City Experimental Elementary School.
The University journalists, having amassed 15 major AWARDS of the 16 categories, dominated private secondary schools in the Division of Dapitan City School.
“We’re stunned with the result,” astonished Adrian Recapente, Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Equalizer’ said. He placed first in news writing (English).
Winners of individual events, which were judged by professional teachers and experts in journalism , were:
Photojournalism: Jacinth Claire A. Cuevas – Champion (English) and Camille Ramos – Champion (Filipino);
News Writing: Adrian Recapente – Champion (English) and Ester Mae L. Boligao – Champion (Filipino);
Feature Writing: Mary Belle Boralo – Champion (English) and Maricon E. Bobiles – Champion (Filipino);
Copyreading and Headline Writing: Vinyet Raquel C. Lasco – Champion (English); Sports Writing: Jaesny Abby Abegaile Dangcalan – Champion (English) and Mary Conie T. Sanico – Champion (Filipino);
Editorial Writing: Mary Amethyst Patula – Champion (English) and Jan Louie Potoy – 2nd Place (Filipino);
Editorial Cartooning: Ryan Gumop-as – 2nd Place (English) and Aivan Rey Page Pasencia – 2nd Place (Filipino); and in Science and Technology Writing: French Aleca Recamara – 3rd Place (English) and Marianne Joy E. Padao (Filipino).
“This is the product of enormous discipline and focus on the part of our students,” said Dr. Paterno S. Baguinat III, Senior High School Principal and adviser of the contestants.
Dr. Baguinat and Naomie B. Daguinotas are the advisers of the victors.
